At least nine civilians, including women and children, were killed after Afghan forces opened unprovoked fire across the border into Bajaur District. The firing and shelling hit the Mamond and Salarzai areas, according to local officials. Several homes were also destroyed, turning quiet neighborhoods into scenes of fear and loss.
As a result, families were forced to flee damaged houses while rescue teams rushed to help the wounded.
Authorities Respond as Public Anger Grows
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that 12 people were injured, among them women, men, and a child. The injured were moved to hospitals in Peshawar for better treatment. The district administration said relief work has started and damaged homes will be repaired. Compensation for the families of the victims will be paid under government policy.
At the same time, security forces took notice of the attack and responded to protect the area.
However, the incident has sparked anger among local residents. Protesters have demanded an end to cross-border attacks on civilian areas. Many also questioned the silence of international bodies and global media, saying such attacks on innocent people should not be ignored.
