Lawmakers in the provincial assembly raised concerns over the lack of reliable mobile network coverage in remote and border regions near the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, warning that the situation is affecting communication, education, and emergency response capabilities.
Speaking on a point of order, a PTI lawmaker Anwar Khan said that areas close to the Pak-Afghan border remain highly vulnerable, where any emergency situation could arise and communication with authorities becomes extremely difficult due to weak or missing mobile signals.
He questioned how residents are expected to stay connected or seek help if basic telecom services are unavailable, adding that overseas Pakistanis also face difficulties in contacting families in these regions.
The lawmaker urged that relevant institutions be summoned to the assembly to provide a clear explanation and practical solutions to the issue.
Another member, MPA Malik Liaqat, noted that the Speaker had previously issued rulings on the matter, but no meaningful implementation had followed.
He also highlighted that online education has been severely affected in several areas due to poor connectivity, particularly in Chitral and other remote districts.
The Deputy Speaker informed the House that a committee had already been formed and work was underway to address the issue, assuring members that progress would be reviewed.
