Rawalpindi: A formal and dignified ceremony was held at GHQ Rawalpindi to mark one year since the May 2025 four day conflict with India. The event also celebrated what was referred to as Operation Truth and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The ceremony began with senior military leaders visiting the memorial of martyrs. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, laid floral wreaths and offered prayers. A military guard of honor was also presented at the site.

May 2025 Conflict Described as a Battle of Two Ideologies

Moving forward, Field Marshal Asim Munir said the May 2025 conflict was not just between two countries but a clash of two different ideologies. He said Pakistan achieved success in what he called a decisive confrontation.

He stated that fighting began on the night of 6 and 7 May. During the operation, Pakistan reportedly used its air power and missile systems to strike more than 26 key military targets. He added that this response restricted enemy air activity and forced them into defensive positions.

He also said Pakistan’s action was supported by the sacrifice of martyrs, including civilians. He described national unity as a key strength behind the success.

Ceasefire and US Mediation Claim

Transitioning to diplomatic developments, the Field Marshal said India suffered heavy losses during the conflict and later sought help through international channels, including the United States.

He claimed that India requested a ceasefire through US political leadership. Pakistan, he said, agreed to the ceasefire in the interest of regional peace. He also stated that the announcement of a ceasefire reflected India’s military pressure and Pakistan’s defensive strength.

Warning to India and Regional Security Concerns

In addition, Field Marshal Asim Munir issued a strong warning to India. He said India wants to isolate Pakistan and shift the balance of power in the region, but such plans will never succeed.

He emphasized that Pakistan’s people stood firmly with their armed forces during the conflict. According to him, national unity played a key role in responding to the situation.

He also warned that any future aggression would bring serious consequences. He stressed that Pakistan’s defense policy is based on peace, but sovereignty will always be protected at all costs.

Future Warfare and Defense Modernization

Looking ahead, the Field Marshal said future wars will involve drones, cyber systems, and artificial intelligence. He announced the establishment of a new Defense Forces Headquarters to strengthen coordination and modern warfare readiness.

He said Pakistan’s defense is now stronger and more prepared than ever. However, he warned that any new hostile action would not remain limited to borders and would face a strong response.

Diplomatic Achievements and Global Role

Furthermore, he highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic progress over the past year. He called the defense agreement with Saudi Arabia a major milestone. He also mentioned Pakistan’s role in peace efforts in different regional situations.

He said Pakistan is now being recognized as a responsible and neutral mediator on the global stage. This, he added, reflects its growing diplomatic influence.

Counter Terrorism and Kashmir Position

Moving to security issues, he urged Afghanistan to eliminate militant networks operating from its territory. He also said that India is increasingly relying on non traditional methods after failing in conventional conflict.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political and moral support for Kashmir. He said the Kashmir issue remains central and unresolved.

National Leadership Messages

At the end of the ceremony, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also issued messages of support. The President praised the leadership of the Field Marshal and called it a key factor in success.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to martyrs and said Pakistan cannot be intimidated or forced into submission. Across the country, people observed a day of thanksgiving and expressed strong solidarity with the armed forces.
