DERA ISMAIL KHAN- Police in Dera Ismail Khan responded after unknown individuals fired shots at the residence of Pakistan national cricket team fast bowler Naseem Shah. The attack damaged the main gate, windows, and a vehicle parked at the residence.

Authorities confirmed that the assailants fled the scene, and police have since arrested five suspected individuals for questioning. A formal case has been registered at Thana Mayaar Police Station, and an active investigation is underway.

 Lower Dir and Cross-Border Militancy

Lower Dir borders Kunar province in Afghanistan, an area known for militant activities. Intelligence and law enforcement officials have indicated that elements of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) based in Kunar have been involved in similar attacks in the region. This context is crucial in understanding the security landscape, as it frames the incident not merely as a local crime but as part of ongoing cross-border militancy challenges.

“Given the geographic proximity to Kunar and historical TTP activity, such incidents should be viewed in the context of broader security threats rather than attributing them to local disputes,” a security official noted.

Police Response and Investigations

The local police have increased security around the cricketer’s residence and are coordinating with federal and provincial law enforcement agencies to prevent further attacks.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety of prominent public figures and residents. The perpetrators will be apprehended, and justice will be delivered,” said a police spokesperson.

The investigations are still underway……
