Indonesia has said it wants to further strengthen defence ties with Pakistan in different areas, according to a statement from Pakistan’s military media wing.

The announcement came during a visit by Indonesian Defence Minister Lieutenant General (retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to Pakistan, where he met Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at GHQ in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, both sides discussed regional and global security issues and ways to improve defence cooperation.

They agreed on the need to strengthen training links, institutional cooperation, and defence industry partnerships. The Indonesian minister praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and appreciated their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

He also said Indonesia wants to expand defence cooperation with Pakistan in many fields.

Field Marshal Asim Munir said Pakistan remains committed to building a strong and long-term defence relationship with Indonesia based on shared values and mutual respect.

The Indonesian delegation also met Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in Islamabad. The talks focused on closer cooperation between the two air forces, especially in training, technology and capacity building.

The Indonesian minister praised the Pakistan Air Force and showed interest in working together in aviation and aerospace.

These meetings follow the recent visit of Indonesia’s president to Pakistan, showing growing ties between the two countries.
