Astana- June 18, 2025: Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov called for greater international cooperation to promote Afghan stability during the second “Central Asia–China” summit. Speaking at the high-level forum, Japarov underscored Afghanistan’s central role in shaping the region’s future.
He said Kyrgyzstan fully supports the global community’s efforts to restore peace in Afghanistan. According to Japarov, stability in Afghanistan is not just an internal matter — it is a critical element of broader regional security. He described a secure Afghanistan as a “key factor” in creating lasting peace across Central Asia.
The summit brought together leaders from Central Asian countries and China to discuss security, economic development, and regional integration. Japarov’s remarks were particularly focused on the geopolitical impact of Afghanistan’s fragile situation.
Call for International Support
President Japarov urged world powers to stay engaged with Afghanistan. He emphasized that ignoring the current situation would have long-term consequences for neighboring countries. In his view, collective efforts are the only way to bring peace and stability to the war-torn nation.
The Kyrgyz leader also highlighted how instability in Afghanistan could spill over into Central Asia. He pointed to rising threats like cross-border terrorism, drug trafficking, and migration as shared concerns that demand a united response.
Japarov’s comments align with growing calls from regional leaders for a pragmatic and humanitarian approach toward Afghanistan. While many nations remain cautious in dealing with the Taliban-led government, Japarov stressed the need to support the Afghan people directly — through aid, dialogue, and infrastructure investment.

A Shared Responsibility
This is not the first time Kyrgyzstan has voiced concern over Afghanistan. Nevertheless, raising the issue at a major summit with China present sends a strong diplomatic signal. Clearly, Central Asian states understand the risks. Moreover, they appear ready to help shape future outcomes.
As the summit concluded, leaders pledged to boost regional cooperation. Key areas include security, economic development, and infrastructure. However, Japarov’s focus on Afghan stability stood out. Ultimately, it served as a reminder that peace in one country shapes the future of the entire region.
