Lahore- May 26,2025: Lahore seal title after defeating Quetta Gladiators in a thrilling last-ball finish at the Gaddafi Stadium on May 25. With this win, the Qalandars clinched their third Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy in just four years.
Quetta set a daunting target of 203 runs. However, Lahore responded confidently. They needed 12 off the final over. Kusal Perera’s unbeaten 62 off 31 balls, along with Sikandar Raza’s timely cameo, sealed the victory.
From start to finish, the match kept fans on edge. It delivered a memorable end to a tournament full of drama and high-stakes moments.
Shaheen, Perera Led the Charge
Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi led with both the ball and leadership. He took 19 wickets in 12 matches and won the Bowler of the Tournament award. More importantly, he credited his team’s young talent for their fearless approach.
“We backed ourselves, even after Quetta crossed 200,” said Afridi. “Perera played a brilliant innings, and Raza held his nerve under pressure.”
Perera earned the Player of the Match title. He explained, “We had to take calculated risks. That mindset helped us chase confidently.”
Soon after the final ball, Shaheen lifted the trophy before a roaring home crowd. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari personally handed the medals to the winners.
Gladiators Fought Hard but Fell Short
Despite the loss, Quetta showed grit throughout the tournament. Hasan Nawaz stood out as a consistent performer. He scored 399 runs in 10 innings and received both Batter of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament awards.
Captain Saud Shakeel reflected on the journey with pride. “We fought hard, but Lahore didn’t let go of the momentum,” he said. “Hasan adapted to every position in the batting order without hesitation.”
Although the Gladiators couldn’t cross the final hurdle, they earned respect for their spirit and consistency.
