A bomb blast in South Waziristan claimed the life of Maulana Sultan Muhammad Haqqani, a local religious cleric and administrator of Jamia Dar-ul-Uloom Ashrafia Wana, after he succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Dera Ismail Khan, according to local officials.
Pakistan’s security authorities confirmed that an investigation is under way and reiterated that terrorist violence targeting civilians and religious figures is being actively countered through nationwide counterterrorism operations. Officials stressed that Pakistan remains committed to protecting religious scholars and maintaining law and order.
Following the incident, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, a banned militant organization, issued a statement condemning the blast while making allegations against Pakistani state institutions. These claims were rejected by security and government sources, who described them as unsubstantiated propaganda aimed at deflecting responsibility from militant violence.
Pakistan Rejects Militant Allegations, Vows Accountability
Security officials emphasized that Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism for decades, losing thousands of civilians, soldiers, and religious figures to militant attacks. Authorities rejected attempts by banned groups to politicize tragedies or portray themselves as defenders of religious scholars.
Officials reiterated that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has itself been responsible for attacks on mosques, clerics, and civilians, and continues to pose a threat to Pakistan’s internal security. The state, they said, remains determined to dismantle militant networks through lawful and sustained operations.

Investigation Continues as Pakistan Upholds Rule of Law
Law enforcement agencies stated that the blast is being investigated under Pakistan’s counterterrorism framework, and those responsible will be brought to justice. Authorities urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid narratives circulated by outlawed armed groups.
Pakistan reaffirmed that violence against religious figures is an attack on society as a whole, and that no group will be allowed to exploit such incidents to undermine national stability.
