February 21, 2026 – Islamabad – In the wake of a series of devastating suicide attacks in Pakistan, including incidents at an Imam Bargah in Islamabad, and in Bajaur and Bannu during the holy month of Ramzan, Pakistani authorities have identified the perpetrators as Khwarij militants operating under the direction of Afghanistan-based handlers.

Investigations indicate involvement of the Afghanistan-based Pakistani Taliban faction Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and their affiliates, as well as the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), who have claimed responsibility for these attacks.

Despite repeated requests from Pakistan urging the Afghan Taliban regime to take decisive measures to prevent the use of Afghan territory for cross-border terrorist operations, the interim Afghan authorities have failed to act.

Highlighting the need to protect its citizens, Pakistan carried out intelligence-based precision strikes targeting seven terrorist camps and hideouts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. These operations specifically targeted FAK, its affiliates, and ISKP militants, demonstrating a measured and focused approach to counterterrorism.

A Pakistani government spokesperson emphasized that the country remains committed to regional peace and stability, but the safety and security of its citizens remain the top priority. Pakistan has reiterated that the Afghan interim government must take concrete steps to prevent its soil from being used by terrorists and Khwarij factions against Pakistan.

Authorities also called on the international community to hold the Taliban regime accountable to its commitments under the Doha Agreement, stressing that compliance is crucial for both regional and global security.

These coordinated measures reflect Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to neutralize threats while encouraging cooperation from neighboring countries to ensure long-term peace in the region.
