The Pakistan Cricket Board has taken firm action against Sri Lankan all rounder Dasun Shanaka for breaking his Pakistan Super League contract. The decision has sparked discussion across the cricket world and sent a clear message about the importance of honoring league commitments.
PCB Takes Strict Action to Protect League Rules
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Dasun Shanaka was signed by Lahore Qalandars for PSL Season 11. However, just before the tournament began, he withdrew from the league. The PCB said this step was a clear violation of the contract he had agreed to earlier.
As a result, the board announced a one year ban on Shanaka from the Pakistan Super League. This means he will not be allowed to take part in the next edition of the league, PSL 12. PCB officials explained that such action was necessary to protect the credibility and smooth running of the tournament.
Moreover, the board stressed that PSL has grown into a major international league. For this reason, player availability and commitment are taken very seriously. Any sudden withdrawal, without valid reasons, can affect team planning, fans expectations, and the league’s overall image.
Shanaka Apologizes and Hopes for a Future Return
Meanwhile, Dasun Shanaka has publicly expressed regret over his decision. He apologized to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Lahore Qalandars, cricket fans, and the wider cricket community. He admitted that his withdrawal disappointed supporters and said he was genuinely sorry for the outcome.
In addition, Shanaka clarified that when he stepped away from PSL, he did not plan to join any other tournament. He said he has always enjoyed playing cricket in Pakistan and respects the passion of PSL fans. He also described the league as a prestigious competition that holds a special place in modern cricket.
Looking ahead, Shanaka shared hope that he will be able to return to the PSL in the future with renewed commitment. He said he has learned from this experience and understands the responsibility that comes with signing league contracts.
Finally, PCB officials noted that this decision also serves as a warning to other players. Contracts must be respected, and the board will not hesitate to act if league rules are ignored. In this way, the PCB aims to keep the PSL strong, fair, and professional for seasons to come.
