Riyadh— The Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, received the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class during a ceremony in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman presented the honor following a royal directive from King Salman.

The medal recognizes Field Marshal Munir’s distinguished efforts in strengthening Saudi-Pakistani friendship, expanding defence cooperation and advancing bilateral ties.

Strengthening defence partnership

Prince Khalid congratulated Field Marshal Munir on his appointment and wished him success. Both sides reviewed the long-standing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, along with their growing defence partnership.

They discussed ways to support international peace and security and agreed to continue close cooperation on regional matters.

Senior Saudi officials including Deputy Minister of Defence Prince Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Ayyaf and Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Fayyad Al-Ruwaili attended the meeting.

The Pakistani delegation included Ambassador Ahmed Farooq, Major General Muhammad Jawad Tariq and Brigadier General Mohsin Javed.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that Field Marshal Munir received the medal for his leadership and notable role in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Saudi media also noted that the medal is given to individuals who provide outstanding service to the kingdom or its institutions.

Deep and historic Pak-Saudi relations

The award highlights the deep and historic ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Officials on both sides reaffirmed their commitment to mutual prosperity, stability and long-term partnership. They agreed that close military cooperation supports regional peace and benefits both nations.

The meeting concluded with discussions on expanding military training, technical collaboration and joint defence initiatives.

Field Marshal Munir expressed satisfaction with the strong defence cooperation already in place, while Saudi officials reiterated their desire to elevate strategic ties further.
