A retired railway employee, Liaqat, sacrificed his life near the Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge area on the Punjab–Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, preventing what officials say could have been a major terrorist attack targeting Kohat and nearby populations.

According to media reports, a suicide bomber was attempting to reach a sensitive security check post when Liaqat, acting as a vigilant citizen, became suspicious and stopped the attacker to question his identity. During the confrontation, the terrorist detonated himself, killing Liaqat and the attacker on the spot.

Prime Minister Praises Liaqat’s Courage

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the bravery and patriotism of the deceased civilian, saying Liaqat acted like a “wall of steel” and saved not only the security checkpoint but also dozens of innocent lives.

The prime minister stated that courageous citizens like Liaqat are the nation’s true strength and have played a vital role in the fight against terrorism. He also prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s status and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

National Unity Against Terrorism

In his statement, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the people of Pakistan have always defeated the malicious designs of enemies seeking to destabilize the country.

He said the entire nation stands alongside the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, adding that terrorism would be eradicated through national unity and collective determination.
