According to reports by The New York Times and Axios, US President Donald Trump has indicated that current diplomatic efforts may represent the final opportunity for Iran to reach an agreement with Washington before the risk of large-scale military action increases.

Citing US officials, The New York Times reported that Trump believes negotiations or an initial limited, targeted strike could pressure Iran into accepting US demands. However, if these steps fail to produce results, he is said to be considering a much broader military operation in the coming months. Such an operation, according to the report, would aim not merely at deterrence but at fundamentally weakening Iran’s leadership and potentially removing senior figures from power.

In a related development, Axios reported that US officials view the upcoming round of talks scheduled for Thursday, 7th of Hoot (late February), in Geneva as Iran’s “last chance” to secure a deal with a Trump-led administration before the launch of extensive US military operations. The report claims that these potential operations could directly target Iran’s highest leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both reports underline the growing urgency and tension surrounding the diplomatic track. While negotiations are still formally on the table, US officials suggest that patience in Washington is wearing thin, and failure to reach an agreement could shift the situation rapidly from diplomacy to confrontation.

The developments reflect a broader escalation in rhetoric and pressure, signaling that the coming talks may prove decisive in determining whether the standoff moves toward de-escalation or a significant military conflict.
