Kabul – The economy of Afghanistan has also started yielding positive results in terms of recovery, and the volume of total trade of the country is up to 6.783 billion in the first half of the current year.

According to a recent announcement by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, this is a significant 30 percent increase compared to the same period the year before.

The upsurge has been largely credited to a significant increase in imports and exports, which reflects a renewed economic outlook of both regional and global partners.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, released the new figures, highlighting the positive trend of the commercial activities in Afghanistan.

“Exports contributed $748 million, denoting a 9% expansion from the equivalent period last year, whereas imports stood at $6.035 billion, indicating a 21% rise,” Jawad stated.

This increase in exports is one of the key indicators of how the country is able to capitalize on its agricultural and food processing industries to conduct international trade.

Key Drivers of Export Growth

According to the report by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the export portfolio of Afghanistan is diversified and rich, with a strong emphasis on agricultural products.

The country also exports a variety of products such as figs, raisins, apricots, saffron, pistachios, and grapes successfully. Also, ready-to-eat food and drinks are adding to the export income.

This strong performance in the agricultural sector is a testament to the resilience of Afghan farmers and producers.

Global Reach and Economic Partnerships

Afghanistan’s trade relationships have expanded to include a wide array of nations, reflecting a strategic effort to diversify its economic partners.

According to the ministry spokesperson, Afghan goods have been shipped to several countries, including Pakistan, India, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Iran, China, and Iraq.
