Islamabad—Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the Auditor General of Pakistan. Where he inaugurated the Centre for Government Data Analytics, describing it as a significant step toward improving transparency, governance, and digital transformation in the public sector.

According to an official statement shared by the Ministry of Finance on X, “Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb today visited the Auditor General of Pakistan Headquarters and inaugurated the Centre for Government Data Analytics, marking a key step toward strengthening transparency, governance, and digital transformation in the public sector.”

The initiative aims to modernize public sector auditing and financial oversight by integrating advanced data analytics tools into government processes.

Shift toward quality audits and data-driven oversight

During the visit, Auditor General of Pakistan Maqbool Ahmad Gondal highlighted a strategic shift in audit practices.

As quoted in the official release, Gondal emphasized a move “from quantity to quality in audits, focusing on entity- and project-based reporting supported by modern data analytics tools to improve efficiency and accountability.”

The new center is expected to enhance audit precision, strengthen oversight mechanisms, and improve the evaluation of government spending through real-time data assessment.

Public financial reforms and digital payments expansion

Controller General of Accounts Umar Ali Khan also briefed the finance minister on ongoing public financial management reforms.

According to the ministry’s statement these include “cashless and digital payments, RAAST, online billing, SAP HANA migration, and the transition toward accrual-based accounting with World Bank support.”

The finance minister welcomed the progress and reiterated the government’s commitment to reform driven governance.

The statement added that “both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to continued reforms, digitalization, and efficient use of public resources for the benefit of citizens.”

The visit concluded with Senator Aurangzeb planting a sapling at the Auditor General of Pakistan’s premises, symbolizing sustainability alongside institutional reform.
