Pakistan has been invited to join the Gaza “Board of Peace” being formed by United States President Donald Trump, the Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday.
The invitation marks Pakistan’s inclusion in a new international forum that Washington says will focus on peace, reconstruction and governance in Gaza.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a formal invitation from President Trump to become part of the initiative.
He added that Pakistan would continue to support international efforts aimed at peace and security in Gaza, leading to a just and lasting solution to the Palestine issue in line with United Nations resolutions.
The proposed board is taking shape as the US moves into the second phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which has been left largely devastated after nearly two years of Israeli bombardment.
President Trump has already named himself chair of the body and has promoted a vision centered on economic reconstruction and development in the territory.
A new global forum on Gaza
The United States has reportedly invited the leaders of around 60 countries to join the Board of Peace, including Turkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Britain, Germany, Canada and Australia.
However, the board’s charter does not explicitly mention Gaza, raising concerns among analysts that it may be positioned as a parallel platform to the United Nations.
According to US announcements, the board includes high-profile figures such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British prime minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior US negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has also been named, despite Israel’s objections to a Turkish role in Gaza.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with governing Gaza held its first meeting in Cairo last week.
Led by former Palestinian Authority official Ali Shaath, the group has outlined plans for debris removal and reconstruction within three years.
Analysts say Pakistan’s participation will be closely watched as discussions intensify over Gaza’s future governance, security arrangements and reconstruction.
