New York — United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has issued a stark warning that the organization is facing an imminent financial collapse due to non-payment of membership dues by several member states.

According to Guterres, if outstanding contributions are not received, the UN could exhaust its financial resources completely by July, jeopardizing its ability to carry out operations worldwide.

This unprecedented situation highlights the critical dependence of the UN on timely contributions from its members to fund humanitarian aid, peacekeeping missions, and global development programs. Officials stress that without immediate payments, ongoing initiatives across conflict zones, refugee support programs, and sustainable development projects may face serious disruptions.

Guterres urged member states to fulfill their financial obligations promptly, emphasizing that delayed payments threaten the organization’s ability to respond to urgent global crises, from humanitarian disasters to peacekeeping mandates.
This comes at a time when the United Nations continues to provide critical support to countries facing humanitarian crises, conflict zones, and natural disasters worldwide, while raising serious concerns that a financial collapse could severely hamper its ability to respond effectively to these urgent global needs.
