President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari departed today, April 25, on a seven-day official visit to China. According to the Foreign Office, the visit will continue until May 1 and is aimed at expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, along with further strengthening China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. The visit carries added significance as Pakistan and China are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Visit Schedule and Key Cities
The Foreign Office stated that during the first phase of the visit, President Zardari will stay in Changsha, Hunan Province, from April 25 to 27. In the second phase, he will travel to Sanya in Hainan Province from April 28 to May 1. During his stay in these cities, the president will meet provincial leadership and senior Chinese officials to review all aspects of bilateral relations in detail.
Economic Cooperation and Strategic Partnership
According to the statement, President Zardari’s meetings will focus on enhancing economic and trade cooperation and accelerating the pace of CPEC-related projects. The visit reflects the longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China and demonstrates both countries’ strong commitment to further strengthening their strategic cooperative partnership.
Outcomes of Previous Visits
It is worth noting that President Asif Ali Zardari also undertook a successful 10-day visit to China last year, during which six memorandums of understanding were signed in key sectors including agriculture, defence, energy, railways, and farmer training. During the current visit, discussions will also focus on progress in these agreements and exploring new areas of cooperation, with expected benefits for all provinces of Pakistan.
