Rawalpindi: Security forces conducted a major and highly successful operation against terrorists in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eliminating 22 militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij. According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out in the Shewa area of North Waziristan.
ISPR stated that a clearance and sanitization operation has been ongoing in the area since 17 May 2026 based on credible intelligence information. During the operation, security forces effectively and precisely targeted the militants’ hideouts and shelters.
Over the past 24 hours, 22 militants of Fitna al-Khawarij were killed in a heavy exchange of fire, and a large quantity of modern automatic weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from their possession. The killed militants were wanted in multiple serious incidents in the area, including attacks on security forces, targeted killings, and extortion.
The military’s media wing further revealed that evidence confirmed these militants had held innocent local civilians hostage at gunpoint and through threats. The terrorists used civilians as “human shields” to avoid security action and ensure safe movement, reflecting their cowardly and inhumane tactics.
ISPR clarified that no one will be allowed to endanger innocent civilian lives. The clearance operation will continue until the complete elimination of militants from the area, and security forces have maintained an effective cordon in the region.
