March 13, 2026

Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been signed by Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000 in the men’s auction for The Hundred, with the franchise raising their bid to secure him ahead of interest from Trent Rockets.

The move comes despite earlier speculation that some Indian-owned teams might avoid selecting Pakistani players. Officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the franchises clarified that player selections cannot be influenced by nationality.

Since his debut in 2024, Abrar Ahmed has claimed 52 wickets in 38 T20 Internationals for the Pakistan national cricket team, showcasing his consistent skill and ability to perform under pressure. His acquisition by Sunrisers Leeds is seen as a key boost to their bowling attack for the upcoming season.

This signing highlights the continued recognition of Pakistani talent in global T20 competitions, underscoring that performance and merit remain the driving factors in franchise cricket.
