Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Security forces in Pakistan carried out an intelligence based operation in Bannu district on April 9. During the operation, several militants linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed.
Following the operation, officials confirmed a major and concerning development. One of the dead militants was identified as Fatahullah, also known as Mudassar. He was reportedly a member of the Yarmouk 60 unit under Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior Special Forces.
Claims of Cross-Border Links Raise Serious Regional Security Questions
According to details, Fatahullah belonged to the Zarmat district of Paktia province in Afghanistan. His reported affiliation with Afghan government forces has raised serious concerns for security observers.
As a result, analysts say this case suggests possible overlap between official Afghan security structures and militant groups operating across the border in Pakistan. They argue that this is not an isolated incident but part of a wider pattern of cross-border militancy.
In addition, experts believe that the presence of trained personnel linked to official Afghan units in such operations challenges Kabul’s repeated claims that its territory is not being used against other countries.
Experts Point to Growing Concerns Over Cross-Border Militancy
Meanwhile, defense analysts say that the involvement of individuals with Afghan security backgrounds in TTP linked activities reflects deeper coordination risks in the region.
Furthermore, they argue that increasing cross-border attacks in recent years highlight a growing security challenge for Pakistan. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to take action against elements that may be operating from within Afghan territory.
Overall, the incident has added fresh tension to already fragile relations between the two neighboring countries and raised renewed concerns about regional stability.
