KABUL – April 13: The Afghan refugee return continues to make significant strides as over 1,000 Afghan families have returned to Afghanistan this week. The families, who had been living in Pakistan and Iran, received essential support as they crossed back into their home country.
On April 11, 820 families crossed the Torkham border. Officials registered and biometrically verified them. After processing, the Commission relocated 878 families to provinces like Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Kabul. Each family received 1.99 million Afghanis to help with travel expenses.
The Commission also provided temporary shelter at the Umari Camp in Torkham for 635 families. Meanwhile, 288 families returned through Spin Boldak. Of these, 213 families moved to provinces such as Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, and Paktika. They received 689,400 Afghanis in support.
In western Afghanistan, 14 families and 520 individuals returned via the Rishkhor border crossing in Nimroz. Additionally, 18 families crossed through Islam Qala in Herat. They too received assistance.
The Afghan High Commission for Refugees coordinated the relocation of 315 families to 10 northern and eastern provinces. The families received 798,000 Afghanis for travel expenses.
To help families reconnect, the Commission distributed over 3,000 SIM cards. This phase of the Afghan refugee return continues to play an important role in the country’s recovery efforts. It provides refugees the chance to rebuild their lives
