News Desk – 18 April 2025: Muhammad Tariq, also known as Hikmatullah Fidayee, an Afghan national affiliated with Al-Qaeda, was killed in Saraqib Sub-district of Idlib, Syria. According to sources familiar with militant activities, Al-Qaeda fighter killed in Syria.

Tariq joined Al-Qaeda in 2017 after living in Kunduz and originally coming from Helmand province in Afghanistan. He fought German and Afghan troops until Afghan forces arrested him in 2019. The Taliban released him from Bagram prison in 2021 after they regained power.

After his release, Tariq joined the Taliban’s special forces and served in their security units for two years. In 2023, he obtained a passport and told his family he was traveling to Turkey for work. However, he instead went to Syria to reunite with Al-Qaeda operatives.

According to Mahaz, Tariq fought in Idlib alongside Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters. Sources close to him said he planned to reach Palestine to carry out a suicide mission against Israel. He died in Idlib before executing his plan.

The development highlights ongoing transnational jihadist movements from Afghanistan to the Middle East. Tariq’s death raises concerns as ex-combatants use new identities and passports to rejoin global militant networks across conflict zones.

Security analysts say regional and global intelligence must enhance cooperation to track individuals crossing borders under the guise of civilian migration.
