Mastung – April 17, 2025: The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) has officially ended its 20-day-long sit-in at Lakpass in Mastung district. The protest, led by BNP-M President Sardar Akhtar Mengal, was launched in response to the arrests of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) organiser Mahrang Baloch and other activists. The party has now announced a new public outreach movement in Balochistan.
Speaking at a press conference, Mengal said the decision to end the sit-in was taken to avoid disrupting traders and the public. “We believe in peaceful struggle,” he said. “We are not ending our movement, but shifting it to a broader public campaign.”
Mengal confirmed that BNP-M will hold district-level rallies and protests in multiple phases. “The first phase will target Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Surab. The second phase will cover Turbat, Gwadar, and Makran. The third phase will move towards Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, and Dera Murad Jamali.”
The BNP-M’s public outreach movement in Balochistan aims to highlight enforced disappearances and detentions without trial. The party emphasized its commitment to democratic means while intensifying pressure on federal and provincial governments.
Mengal said, “We are not backing down. We are taking this movement to every corner of the province.” He urged the state to listen to the growing concerns of the Baloch people.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan High Court (BHC) dismissed a petition for Mahrang Baloch’s release. According to Dawn, the court redirected the case to the provincial home department, asking the petitioner to first seek clarification on the legality of her detention under the MPO Ordinance.
Meanwhile, BNP-M’s political campaign now enters a fresh phase, combining grassroots mobilisation with a continued demand for justice.
