Dera Ismail Khan – 16 June, 2025: Lance Naik Iqbal Khan Sherani, a brave soldier from the Special Operations Group (SOG), was laid to rest with full state honors in Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan. He embraced martyrdom during a fierce operation against terrorists in Ladha, South Waziristan.
The operation took place earlier this week when security forces launched a targeted strike on militant hideouts. Sherani, known for his fearlessness, led from the front. However, he sustained fatal injuries during the intense exchange of fire. As a result, he gave his life defending the nation’s security.
Meanwhile, preparations for his funeral began immediately. A large number of locals, including tribal elders, social leaders, and members of the armed forces, gathered to pay their respects. His funeral prayer was held in Darazinda and attended by Brigadier Imtiaz Hussain, the local Brigade Commander.
National Honor and Collective Grief for a Fallen Soldier
Later, Brigadier Imtiaz met with the martyr’s family. He praised their resilience and offered full support on behalf of the Pakistan Army. Furthermore, he acknowledged Sherani’s courage as a source of inspiration for the entire force.
At the gravesite, a guard of honor was presented. The national flag was hoisted above Sherani’s final resting place. Emotional scenes followed, with slogans like “Shaheed ki jo maut hai, woh qaum ki hayat hai” echoing in the air. In addition, several community leaders highlighted how Sherani’s sacrifice reinforced Pakistan’s resolve to defeat terrorism.
