Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Tuesday stressed that unity and consensus on matters of national security and national narrative are the need of the hour, as a delegation of leading religious scholars met him in Rawalpindi.
The delegation of the National Paigham-i-Aman Committee (NPAC), led by its chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, expressed full solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces and pledged to counter anti-state narratives and hostile propaganda.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting focused on the country’s internal security challenges, including the threats posed by Fitna al Khawarij, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehreek-i-Taliban Afghanistan.
The DG ISPR said the detailed discussion helped further strengthen the shared stance of all stakeholders on how to deal with these challenges.
He underlined that public awareness and a truth-based narrative are key tools to defeat the enemy’s psychological warfare.
During the meeting, the NPAC delegation strongly condemned Fitna al Khawarij as well as the Afghan Taliban and said terrorism has no justification under any circumstances.
The committee assured full cooperation in promoting the state’s narrative and announced plans to spread the message of Islamic unity, social harmony and constitutional equality across the country through mosques and other religious platforms.
It was also agreed to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against hate speech, sectarianism and takfiri narratives.
The committee further proposed to increase awareness and guidance sessions in mosques, seminaries and universities to better explain the state’s position and to strengthen social cohesion.
The religious leaders said they would play their role in building public trust and in discouraging any narrative that harms national unity or supports violence.
Reiterating Pakistan’s principled position on Kashmir and Gaza, the DG ISPR said supporting oppressed people is Pakistan’s moral responsibility.
He added that the meeting was highly productive and expressed hope that cooperation between state institutions and religious scholars would further improve in the coming days.
The meeting comes less than a week after Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed the army’s zero-tolerance policy towards any threat to national security.
While addressing officers during a visit to Lahore Garrison, he had said the armed forces remain fully committed to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and internal stability and to meeting evolving challenges with professionalism and determination.
Together, these developments highlight a renewed effort to build national consensus, strengthen the state narrative, and ensure that terrorism, extremism and hate speech find no space in Pakistan.
