GILGIT, NOVEMBER 1, 2025 -Gilgit-Baltistan celebrated its 78th Independence Day on Saturday with widespread patriotic fervor. The region, which was liberated from Dogra rule in 1947 through the bravery of the Gilgit Scouts and local resistance movements, paid tribute to the sacrifices of its heroes. Commemorations highlighted the unique role Gilgit-Baltistan played in Pakistan’s creation, emphasizing its strategic location as a gateway to Central and South Asia.

President Zardari Attends as Chief Guest

The main ceremony in Gilgit was graced by President Asif Ali Zardari as the chief guest. In his address, he lauded the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for their unwavering patriotism and resilience. Calling the region “Pakistan’s crown and gateway to China,” he noted its strategic importance in national security, trade, and regional connectivity. President Zardari also recognized the contributions of the Pakistan Army, Gilgit Scouts, and civil society in maintaining peace and stability.

ISPR Releases Patriotic Anthem

An anthem titled “Pakistan Ki Shaan, Gilgit-Baltistan,” produced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), added a musical tribute to the celebrations. The anthem widely was shared on social and traditional media. It emphasized the unity of Gilgit-Baltistan with the rest of Pakistan and evoked pride in the region’s rich history, culture, and scenic landscapes.

CM Gulbar Khan Highlights Loyalty

Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan praised the people’s consistent loyalty to Pakistan over the past 78 years. He reiterated that the region has remained peaceful, patriotic, and committed to national development. CM Khan emphasized that full integration of Gilgit-Baltistan into Pakistan’s constitutional framework without compromising the Kashmir dispute remains a key aspiration of the local populace. He also highlighted the government’s ongoing projects in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, which are designed to improve living standards in remote valleys.

CPEC and Regional Development

President Zardari underscored the transformative impact of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Gilgit-Baltistan. He highlighted that the corridor has created employment opportunities, improved road and energy infrastructure, and enhanced trade links. He urged that CPEC’s benefits must reach every village and valley, ensuring equitable development and economic prosperity.

Solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir

In a strong statement of support, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, pledging continued advocacy for their right to self-determination. He described Gilgit-Baltistan’s historic struggle as an example of resilience that inspires Kashmiris in their pursuit of justice and freedom.

Cultural Displays and Flag Hoisting

The celebrations included vibrant cultural performances, traditional music, folk dances, and local handicraft exhibitions. Schools, civic organizations, and army contingents participated in flag-hoisting ceremonies across towns and villages. The festivities highlighted the region’s cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and communal harmony.
