Commercial activity at Gwadar Port continues to grow as another major cargo vessel, MV Yuan Hong Wei Ye, successfully docked at the port on Monday. The arrival of the ship is being seen as another important step in Gwadar’s emergence as a regional trade hub.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the berthing of the vessel and shared details about its cargo. According to the minister, the ship is carrying a total of 34,000 tons of bulk cargo along with 20,000 tons of additional goods.

Furthermore, he explained that the cargo meant for Abu Dhabi and Kuwait will be unloaded at Gwadar Port. From there, it will be sent onward to its final destinations through transshipment operations.

The minister also said that international shipping companies are showing growing confidence in Gwadar Port. As a result, the port is steadily becoming an active center for regional trade and maritime business.

Government Announces Major Fee Reductions to Boost Trade

Meanwhile, the federal government has introduced major reductions in port tariffs to encourage more trade activity at Gwadar Port.

Under the new policy framework, berthing fees for ships have been reduced by 25 percent. In addition, charges on transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent, while port charges on container cargo have been reduced by up to 31 percent.

At the same time, traders have also been offered the facility of storing general cargo at Gwadar Port free of cost for up to one month. Officials say the purpose of these incentives is to attract more international transit traffic toward Pakistan.

Together, these developments highlight the government’s efforts to strengthen Gwadar Port’s role in regional and international trade.
