Landikotal – 18 April 2025: A prominent PTM leader from Khyber, Hussain Afridi Hussain Afridi renounces PTM (Pashtun Tahafuz Movement) and pledged loyalty to Pakistan in a viral video statement released following his arrest.

Afridi, a former member of PTM’s central core committee and vice president of Zwan Kukikhel, stated, “I am a Pakistani and stand with the state,” denouncing PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen’s alleged anti-state agenda. This marks a significant development in the tribal district of Khyber.

Sources said Khyber police arrested Afridi earlier this week in connection with his online activities. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has since registered a case under Section 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), with inquiry number 494/2024. The investigation remains ongoing.

The video statement surfaced shortly after his detention, fueling speculation about the nature of his renouncement. While Afridi’s declaration has garnered both praise and skepticism, questions persist over whether the disassociation was voluntary.

Afridi actively participated in PTM activities and frequently raised concerns over alleged human rights violations in tribal areas. His sudden U-turn has triggered intense social media debate, with users divided over the authenticity of his statement.

Meanwhile, PTM has not issued an official response. The movement, founded in 2018, campaigns for Pashtun rights, focusing on enforced disappearances and military policies in tribal zones. The state, however, accuses PTM of inciting unrest.
