India-Pakistan conflict escalation intensified as multiple blasts hit Jammu city in Indian-administered Kashmir, causing a blackout for hours. Residents heard sirens as explosions rocked parts of the city. Local journalist Zafar Choudhary called the situation “unforeseen and unprecedented.” Power has been restored gradually.

The situation is part of a flare-up along the Line of Control (LoC). Heavy artillery shelling has led to at least 48 deaths, including 32 in Pakistan. India launched missile strikes, claiming to target “terrorist camps.” Pakistan denies initiating any attacks, calling India’s accusations “politically motivated” and part of a “reckless propaganda campaign.

Drone Strikes and Diplomatic Claims Raise Alarm

Pakistan’s military claimed it shot down 29 Indian drones, including Israeli-made Harop UAVs, targeting cities like Karachi and Lahore. One civilian and four soldiers were injured in these incidents. Meanwhile, U.S. officials told Reuters that Pakistani J-10 jets downed at least two Indian Rafale aircraft. Indian authorities have yet to confirm this claim.

India insists it thwarted Pakistani drone and missile attacks aimed at its military infrastructure. Its Defence Ministry reported that Pakistani fire killed 16 individuals in India, while it had targeted and damaged air defence systems inside Pakistan.

High-level meetings have been convened in both countries, with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirming a commitment to “operational preparedness,” while Pakistan’s parliament has authorized a military response. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that while Pakistan has so far exercised “strategic restraint,” it “deserves to respond at a time and place of its choosing.”

With over 20 airports closed across northern India and civilians evacuating LoC-adjacent villages, the India-Pakistan conflict escalation has pushed the region to the brink. Mediation efforts are underway, with Saudi Arabia and Iran sending foreign ministers to New Delhi and Islamabad.
Tensions remain high as both sides exchange heavy artillery and drone strikes. Analysts warn that without urgent diplomatic intervention, the conflict could spiral into a broader confrontation.
