Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has praised Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts and mediation role, while refraining from commenting on the recent US announcement regarding the extension of a ceasefire.
In his latest statement, Baghaei said that the Islamic Republic of Iran values Pakistan’s sincere efforts aimed at ending the conflict and promoting peace in the region. However, when asked about the United States’ reported extension of the ceasefire by three to five days, he stated that Tehran does not wish to comment on the matter.
Baghaei emphasized that all of Iran’s decisions and actions are guided solely by the protection of its national interests, dignity, and security. He also indicated that Tehran’s decision-making will not be influenced by external pressure or imposed deadlines, but will instead be based on its own national security considerations.
According to diplomatic analysts, the Iranian spokesperson’s remarks both acknowledge Pakistan’s key role and signal a deliberate strategy of not immediately aligning with what is described as Washington’s “deadline diplomacy.” Tehran’s cautious response comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed hope for a second round of negotiations on Friday.
