Iranian state media has reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has seized two foreign vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the action was taken over alleged violations of maritime regulations and threats to sea security.

The Iranian media identified the detained ships as MSC Francesca and Epeimonidas. Reports further claim that both vessels had previously come under fire in the same waterway. Iranian authorities stated that the ships have been transferred toward the Iranian coast, although it remains unclear under what legal procedure the seizures were formally carried out.

Allegations of Violations

Tasnim News Agency also alleged that the vessels were operating without the required permissions and had interfered with navigation systems, thereby endangering maritime safety. Tehran maintains that the ships violated international maritime regulations, which led to their interception and detention.

Rising Regional Tensions

The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, shortly after the United States reportedly seized one Iranian vessel and inspected another. Observers say the latest developments in the Strait of Hormuz reflect an ongoing cycle of maritime and diplomatic friction between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over stability in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
