In a major step towards Pakistan’s transition to a cashless economy, Zindigi powered by JS Bank in collaboration with the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has fully digitized Islamabad International Airport, making it the country’s first completely cashless Smart Airport.
Under the Smart Airport Initiative, the entire airport ecosystem has been digitized enabling passengers to make digital payments at all outlets using any mobile banking application through interoperable Zindigi Raast QR codes.
Officials said the move is designed to simplify payments, reduce cash handling and improve overall efficiency and transparency at the airport.
The initiative directly supports the Prime Minister’s vision of a Cashless Islamabad and Digital Pakistan, which aims to modernize critical public infrastructure through citizen-focused technology.
Commenting on the development, Noman Azhar, Co-CEO of Zindigi, said that once fully implemented, Islamabad International Airport would serve as a national model for smart public infrastructure.
“It will reduce cash dependency, minimize revenue leakages and significantly enhance the passenger journey,” he said.
The transformation was made possible through close coordination between Zindigi and the Pakistan Airports Authority, with key contributions from senior officials including the Deputy Director General PAA, the Director Commissioner & Estate, the Airport Manager Islamabad and senior commercial and retail teams.
Officials said the project demonstrates how public-private collaboration can accelerate digital adoption in high-traffic public spaces and improve service delivery for citizens.
The initiative also reinforces Zindigi’s growing role as a national digital transformation partner, working with federal and city authorities to modernize Pakistan’s economic and civic infrastructure and to promote wider use of secure, interoperable digital payments across the country.
