Airstrikes in the Pul-e-Charkhi area of Kabul have triggered a strong debate over civilian casualty claims and the competing narratives surrounding the conflict in Afghanistan. While the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported civilian deaths and injuries following the strikes, critics say the situation is more complex and requires careful verification.

According to UNAMA, at least four civilians were killed and 14 others were injured in the incident, including women and children. The UN mission also stated that since late February dozens of civilians have reportedly been killed or wounded in similar incidents. In response, the organization called for an immediate halt to hostilities to prevent further loss of life.

However, some analysts argue that casualty claims coming from conflict zones should be examined carefully. They say the early stages of such incidents often produce conflicting reports, especially when different sides present their own versions of events.

Pakistan officials argue that Taliban authorities say the country continues to host several militant groups. They argue that networks linked to groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan operate from Afghan territory. According to these claims, recruitment centers and militant support structures have been allowed to function in certain areas, raising serious security concerns in the region.

Furthermore, some observers argue that militants sometimes operate from locations close to civilian communities. When such areas are targeted, they say the resulting narrative can quickly focus only on civilian harm while ignoring the presence of militant infrastructure nearby. Critics claim that turning populated areas into cover for militant activities and then highlighting casualty figures can shape international perception of the conflict.

For this reason, analysts stress the need for independent verification and transparent investigations. In a highly charged information environment, accurate reporting and the protection of civilian lives remain essential for maintaining credibility and preventing misinformation from shaping the global narrative.
