Khost, Afghanistan – Taliban officials claim that the body of a former member of the previous government’s National Security Directorate was found in the provincial center on Monday. Preliminary investigations by the Taliban suggest the individual, whose name has not been publicly released, had been killed months earlier.

This discovery comes amid repeated warnings from human rights organizations about a rising number of disappearances and targeted killings of former security personnel across several Afghan provinces.

Taliban authorities have consistently denied involvement, describing such reports as “unfounded,” but the continued emergence of bodies and disappearances challenges the credibility of these claims. Experts say these incidents reflect a climate of intimidation and fear for those associated with Afghanistan’s former security structures.

The international community has repeatedly expressed concern over arbitrary killings, disappearances, and lack of accountability in Taliban-controlled regions, highlighting the ongoing human rights crisis in the country.
