The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Afghan Chargé d’Affaires to formally deliver a strong diplomatic demarche over the recent vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attack on the Fateh Khel Police Post in Bannu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on 9 May 2026.
According to official statements, the attack was carried out by terrorists targeting a police installation, resulting in serious security concerns and loss of law enforcement personnel. Pakistani authorities strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a grave threat to internal security and regional stability.
During the diplomatic engagement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office conveyed its serious concerns regarding the use of cross-border sanctuaries by militant groups, stressing that such attacks undermine peace efforts and further strain bilateral relations.
Officials reiterated that repeated incidents involving militant elements operating from across the border are unacceptable and called for immediate and verifiable action against all terrorist networks involved.
The demarche emphasized that Pakistan expects the interim Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used for terrorist activities against Pakistan and to take concrete steps to address the presence of militant groups responsible for such attacks.
The Foreign Office further warned that continued inaction against terrorist organizations could have serious implications for bilateral relations and regional security cooperation.
