Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held a high-level meeting with Barrick Gold Chairman John Thornton, where both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to advancing the Reko Diq copper and gold project in Balochistan.
According to official statements shared after the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordinated efforts to ensure the timely completion and smooth progress of the mega mining project, which is considered one of the most significant resource developments in Pakistan.
Barrick Gold Chairman John Thornton reiterated the company’s commitment to fully completing the Reko Diq project, expressing appreciation for the continued support provided by the Government of Pakistan. He emphasized that long-term cooperation between Barrick and Pakistan remains essential for the successful execution of the project.

Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik described Reko Diq as a flagship initiative for Pakistan’s minerals sector, highlighting its strategic importance for the country’s economic future. He stated that the project is expected to play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s export base and unlocking the potential of its mineral resources.
The minister further noted that Reko Diq would significantly contribute to increasing foreign investment, generating employment opportunities, and promoting regional development, particularly in underdeveloped areas of Balochistan.
Both sides also discussed ongoing operational activities at the site and measures to accelerate progress on key components of the project. The meeting concluded with a shared understanding to maintain close coordination and ensure that all challenges are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
