Beijing – June 25, 2025: Pakistan’s National Security Adviser, Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik, led the country’s delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Security Council Secretaries Meeting in Beijing. The visit reaffirmed strong Pakistan-China strategic cooperation, with regional peace high on the agenda.
Lt Gen Malik, also the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), spoke about Pakistan’s support for multilateral efforts. He emphasized cooperation on regional stability and counter-terrorism. He also urged collective responses to modern security challenges like cyber warfare and hybrid threats.
High-Level Talks with Chinese Officials
During his visit, the NSA held important meetings with senior Chinese leaders. Both sides agreed to strengthen defense and intelligence ties. They emphasized the need to work together on terrorism, cyber threats, and regional stability.
The visit came ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s expected trip to China in August. Preparations for the upcoming SCO Summit were already underway. Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong confirmed this during his meeting with the prime minister.
Ambassador Jiang praised Pakistan’s active diplomacy. He appreciated Pakistan’s support for peaceful solutions to international conflicts, including the Iran-Israel standoff. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts at the UN Security Council.
Pakistan’s Push for Peace and Growth
Lt Gen Malik stressed Pakistan’s peaceful approach. He urged the global community to rely on dialogue, not force, to solve conflicts. He highlighted the importance of respecting sovereignty and promoting cooperation.
The prime minister, in his meeting with Ambassador Jiang, reiterated Pakistan’s strong ties with China. He thanked China for its consistent support in economic and development matters. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to completing key CPEC projects like ML-1, Gwadar Port, and digital infrastructure.
Both sides agreed that peace and progress go hand in hand. They expressed a shared interest in deepening regional partnerships. The visit sent a clear message—Pakistan is ready to engage responsibly with global powers.
