Islamabad: A meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the country’s political, economic, and security situation was reviewed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during the meeting that Pakistan remains hopeful about positive progress in the ongoing Iran–US negotiations, and added that bringing both countries to the negotiating table after decades is a credit to Pakistan. He made these remarks while chairing the cabinet meeting.

According to sources, the Prime Minister briefed cabinet members on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the Iran–US talks and said that both sides came to Islamabad on Pakistan’s request. He noted that direct high-level dialogue after 47 years is a major diplomatic achievement.

The Prime Minister further said that due to Pakistan’s efforts, the ceasefire is still holding. He added that during 21 hours of talks, both delegations discussed important issues in detail. He also stated that both Iranian and American delegations, in separate meetings, appreciated Pakistan’s role and expressed gratitude.

During the cabinet meeting, appreciation was also extended to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and their teams. The Prime Minister said these teams worked continuously and their services would be remembered in history.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was given an opportunity to turn the clouds of war into peace, and that its role is also being appreciated internationally. He also referred to praise from the Prime Minister of Japan regarding Pakistan’s role.

According to analysts, the Prime Minister’s statement reflects Pakistan’s effort to present itself as an active and responsible diplomatic mediator, while its role in achieving sustainable regional peace is becoming increasingly significant.
