Pakistan has urged the United Nations to take immediate action after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, calling the move a serious threat to regional peace and security. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, expressed deep concern over India’s unilateral and unlawful decision.

The Pakistani envoy presented an important letter to the President of the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. The letter stated that India’s unilateral step violates international law and could result in severe humanitarian consequences. It further emphasized that the international community must take urgent notice of the situation.

The letter called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and ensure that India complies with its international obligations. It stressed that the Indus Waters Treaty must be restored in its original form and fully implemented according to its spirit.

Pakistan Rejects Indian Propaganda and Highlights Kashmir Dispute

Asim Iftikhar Ahmed also drew the attention of the Security Council President to what he described as an ongoing baseless propaganda campaign by India against Pakistan. He said that at a time when Pakistan is actively engaged in sincere efforts for mediation in the interest of international peace and security, fabricated allegations are being used to divert global attention from real issues.

The Pakistani envoy also discussed the overall regional situation and stressed that the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the main cause of instability in South Asia. He stated that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved unless the issue is resolved in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan urged the United Nations to take notice of ongoing Indian actions in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including violations of international agreements and other concerns raised at the global level.
