News Desk – 02 May 2025: PLAVE virtual K-pop group has emerged as a major global sensation, with one of their songs entering the Billboard Global 200.

Despite being two-dimensional avatars, PLAVE’s five members—Yejun, Noah, Eunho, Bamby, and Hamin—have built a loyal fanbase and generated over 470 million YouTube views.

Their label, Vlast, says each avatar is controlled in real-time by human performers using motion-capture technology. However, the humans remain anonymous.

“We get very excited at concerts,” said Bamby, a pink-haired avatar. “We make an all-out effort when we perform and see fans cheer.”

Their latest album Caligo Pt.1 sold over one million copies within a week of release in South Korea. It topped domestic charts and expanded their global reach.

For PLAVE virtual K-pop, Vlast connects its motion-capture studio to venues in real-time, allowing avatars to respond to fans. “This setup includes a feedback system,” CEO Lee Sung-gu told Reuters.

Despite AI trends, Lee confirmed they’ll continue relying on human-powered motion capture. “It’s our unique strength,” he added.

PLAVE’s fan engagement mirrors traditional K-pop idols. A Taiwanese fan, Chang Ya Han, said, “The love they give us is the same. They inspire us.”

Music critic Kim Do Heon said accessibility boosts PLAVE’s appeal. “Cyber idols are easier to follow than traditional ones,” he noted.

HYBE and YG Plus have invested in Vlast, aligning with the industry’s growing embrace of AI and metaverse entertainment.
