Islamabad, May 24, 2025–Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will launch a five-day diplomatic tour on Sunday, May 25, 2025, visiting Turkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan. This PM visit follows a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India on May 10, which ended a violent conflict that claimed at least 70 lives through missile, drone, and artillery attacks.

The latest Pakistan-India conflict began after a deadly April 22 assault on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir. India immediately blamed Pakistan for the attack, but Islamabad firmly denied any involvement and demanded an international investigation. Many allied nations supported Pakistan’s call for a transparent inquiry and urged both countries to exercise restraint.

PM Shehbaz Begins Diplomatic Outreach

With tensions now easing, PM Shehbaz Sharif aims to use this PM visit to strengthen diplomatic ties and personally thank the nations that stood by Pakistan during the crisis. According to the Foreign Office, the prime minister will engage in a comprehensive discussions on both bilateral issues and wider regional cooperation.

As part of the visit, the prime minister will attend the International Conference on Glaciers in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on May 29-30. There, he plans to spotlight Pakistan’s growing concerns over climate change and glacial melting—issues that directly threaten the country’s long-term water and ecological security.

Officials have reported unusually high temperatures in northern Pakistan, which have significantly increased glacier melt. This alarming trend poses serious risks, including potential water shortages and irreversible environmental damage.

Through this important PM visit, Islamabad continues to demonstrate its dedication to regional stability, peaceful diplomacy, and climate responsibility. Prime Minister Sharif seeks not only to deepen international partnerships but also to position Pakistan as a forward-thinking nation ready to tackle both security and environmental challenges. His outreach underscores the importance of collaboration among friendly countries in navigating shared global threats.
