ISLAMABAD: Political parties unite after Pahalgam incident to show solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces in case of Indian aggression. This development came during an in-camera briefing on Sunday, attended by top civil and military officials along with major political parties—excluding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Director General ISPR Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar led the session. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the meeting aimed to gather political feedback amid escalating tensions with India.

The backdrop is the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians—mostly tourists—were killed. India quickly pointed fingers at Pakistan. However, Pakistan firmly rejected the claims, terming the attack a “false flag operation” and demanding a neutral international probe.

Sources revealed that political leaders were briefed on India’s alleged motives behind the attack, including plans to escalate oppression in Kashmir, divert water under the Indus Waters Treaty, and link the incident to cross-border terrorism. The military also presented evidence of Indian involvement in destabilizing Balochistan.

Attendees included PPP leaders Raja Pervez Ashraf and Qamar Zaman Kaira, PML-N’s Tallal Chaudhry, MQM-P’s Farooq Sattar, and AJK’s Shah Ghulam Qadir. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir disclosed that video clips were shown to support claims of India’s role in terrorism.

All participating parties assured full support to the armed forces. They emphasized national unity and agreed that a strong, collective stance was necessary to counter India’s narrative on international platforms.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is preparing to brief the United Nations Security Council and has reached out to allies including China and Malaysia. China reaffirmed its support and called for restraint on both sides.

The absence of PTI raised eyebrows, but the rest of the political spectrum stood firm with the military. In a display of rare consensus, political parties unite after Pahalgam incident to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty and regional peace.
