Paktia – April 18,2025: Qatar has launched an $800,000 housing project in Gardez city, Paktia province, to support Afghan returnees. The project aims to provide essential infrastructure and shelter to families deported during Pakistan’s second-phase expulsion campaign.
Officials confirmed the project will include 100 homes along with a school, mosque, madrasa, shops, and a clean water supply network. “Qatar is building 100 houses equipped with all essential services,” said Habibullah Shaheedzada, Director of Refugees and Repatriation. “Each home will have access to drinking water, and community needs like education and prayer facilities are being met.”
Recently deported returnees have expressed gratitude while also appealing for further aid. “We thank Qatar for housing support,” said Rahim Gul, who was returned from Pakistan. “Other countries and organizations should also assist, as we returned empty-handed.”
Abdulwahid, another returnee, urged the government to help him construct a planned home. “We’re living in tents now, but this land belongs to my ancestors. I’m happy to return. We will survive with help from our community.”
According to official data, nearly 300 Afghan families have returned to Paktia since Pakistan intensified repatriations. The new housing complex aims to reintegrate these families into society and alleviate their immediate needs.
The initiative highlights Qatar’s growing role in Afghan humanitarian support and sets a precedent for sustainable aid models.
