Rawalakot Man Arrested Over Alleged Espionage for Foreign Agency
Police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have arrested a man in Rawalakot accused of working for a foreign intelligence network. Officials say he was involved in collecting sensitive information and passing it to hostile elements. The case has raised serious concerns about the use of social media for spying activities.
According to the Inspector General of Police AJK, the suspect was arrested after an investigation into suspicious online activity and movement of sensitive data. Authorities say he was actively using social media platforms to contact people and gather information about important locations.
Social Media Used to Collect Sensitive Information
Officials revealed that the suspect allegedly used different social media accounts to build contacts with local citizens. He would then ask for photos, videos, and location details of sensitive sites. In some cases, he reportedly offered money in exchange for this information.
As a result, investigators believe that ordinary citizens were unknowingly targeted and misused for intelligence gathering. Authorities also warned that fake identities, including people posing as journalists or women, were being used to trap individuals online.
Furthermore, police said the suspect shared collected data with a foreign network. This included videos, images, and location details of key areas. The investigation is still ongoing to identify others possibly involved in the network.
Authorities Warn Public to Stay Alert
In addition, the Inspector General urged the public to remain careful while using social media. He advised citizens not to share personal or location-based information with unknown contacts. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, officials stressed that the security of Azad Kashmir remains a top priority. They added that state institutions are actively working to prevent any attempt to harm national security.
For now, the investigation continues as authorities examine the suspect’s digital devices and communication records. More arrests are expected as the probe expands.
