Nangarhar – 25 April 2025: A tribal gathering in Nangarhar province voiced strong support for repatriated Afghans from Pakistan and condemned their alleged mistreatment. Community leaders and residents urged authorities to assist those facing hardships after returns. The issue of repatriated Afghans from Pakistan appeared early in the meeting’s agenda, underlining the urgency of the humanitarian crisis.

Shamsul Haq, a tribal elder, criticized Pakistan’s actions, calling them un-Islamic and unlawful. He questioned the mindset behind the crackdown on Afghan migrants. Another elder, Sayed Jehan Jahani, urged international refugee organizations to act swiftly to end the ongoing violations.

Participants expressed frustration with the global community’s silence on the treatment of Afghan migrants. Sardarwali Ghrowal stated that Afghans went to Pakistan out of necessity and deserve dignity and support. Rahmatullah, a local resident, questioned why international organizations remain silent amid ongoing suffering.

The gathering emphasized that repatriated Afghans from Pakistan face severe challenges, including lack of shelter and livelihood. Tawos Khan Hemat Akhundzada proposed allocating land from the Qosh Tepa Canal project to support returnees, linking repatriation with national development. Haider Khan suggested forming a relief fund to resettle returning families with dignity.

A five-point resolution was adopted, calling on the caretaker government, national businessmen, and humanitarian agencies to provide urgent aid. Recommendations included the establishment of shelters and employment programs to ensure long-term integration of repatriated migrants.
