A hand grenade attack targeting Taliban forces was carried out on Wednesday evening in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar, resulting in the deaths of three personnel and leaving two others, including the camp commander, seriously injured.

According to sources, unidentified armed men hurled a hand grenade at the vehicle of the camp commander outside a Taliban security camp located on University Road. Two personnel were killed on the spot in the explosion. The attack triggered panic in the area, after which the assailants opened fire and fled the scene.

During the firing, the camp commander, identified as Mullah Waheed Farman, along with two other personnel, sustained critical injuries. The commander later succumbed to his wounds, raising the death toll to three. The deceased were identified as Shamsullah, a resident of Helmand, and Aziz Pahlawan, a resident of Gardez.

Sources said the attackers were riding a motorcycle and managed to escape after carrying out the attack. Subsequently, an anti-Taliban armed group calling itself AFF claimed responsibility for the assault, though the claim could not be independently verified.

Immediately after the incident, Taliban forces exited the camp and resorted to heavy firing, spreading fear and chaos across University Road and surrounding areas. The area was later cordoned off, and a door-to-door search operation was launched, which continued late into the night.

So far, the Taliban authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Security in the area remains on high alert, and further investigations are underway.
