In the early results of the US midterm elections, the Democratic Party has taken a lead over the Republicans, leaving President Donald Trump’s party struggling to retain its majority in the House of Representatives.

According to the early results, Democrats are leading in 190 House races and Republicans in 110. A party needs 218 seats to win a majority in the 435-member House.

Democrats also have the edge in the early US Senate results. After taking the lead in 17 seats, their total has risen to 51, while Republican candidates are ahead in 8 seats, bringing their total to 39. A simple majority in the 100-seat Senate requires 51 seats.

US President Donald Trump, responding to the early midterm results, said he will accept the election outcome and is ready to work with the Democrats.

He said it is possible the two parties could reach a consensus on some issues. Three American astronauts cast their votes from space.
