Washington: US President Donald Trump has officially announced a three-week extension of the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. The announcement came after a high-level meeting at the White House attended by diplomatic representatives from both countries.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Donald Trump said that the meeting with the ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon, held alongside Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, was highly successful. He stated that the United States is ready to cooperate with Lebanon to help it become free from Hezbollah’s influence and ensure greater stability and security in the region. Trump also said he looks forward to hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House soon.

Following the meeting, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, described the development as extraordinary. He said Israel and Lebanon have never been as close as they are today and thanked President Trump and Vice President JD Vance for their efforts toward peace. He added that generations had waited for such a historic moment.

Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, also welcomed the decision, calling it a historic step. She praised the US president’s commitment and said that continued American support could help rebuild Lebanon into a strong and stable nation

Diplomatic Breakthrough Comes Amid Rising Tensions

The extension of the ceasefire comes at a time when diplomatic efforts have intensified to prevent escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border. The US administration believes the additional time will provide a stronger foundation for ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
