Trump Praises Pakistan’s Role in Iran–US Talks, Signals Diplomatic Progress
Former US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s leadership and people for their role in helping ease tensions between Iran and the United States. He also suggested that diplomatic efforts are moving in a positive direction and could lead to further progress soon.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump called Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir “great people” and credited Pakistan for playing an important role in facilitating dialogue. His remarks come at a time when backchannel diplomacy between Washington and Tehran is gaining attention.
Pakistan’s Role in Iran–US Diplomacy
According to Trump, Pakistan is in a unique position because of its geographic and political closeness to Iran. He said this allows Islamabad to act as a useful bridge between the two sides. He added that Pakistan’s efforts are helping improve communication at a critical moment.
At the same time, Trump repeated his claim that Iran’s nuclear ambitions were slowed down due to past US actions. He said the current situation could have been much worse if earlier steps were not taken. However, he also indicated that Iran now appears more open to discussions after weeks of tension.
Meanwhile, US officials have also commented on the evolving situation. Economic adviser Kevin Hassett suggested that any agreement with Iran would help global stability, while warning that failure could lead to stronger economic pressure. Separately, Vice President JD Vance said Washington is seeking a broader deal that goes beyond nuclear issues and includes regional concerns as well.
Trump Signals Possible Next Round in Pakistan
Trump also suggested that the next round of Iran–US talks could take place in Pakistan in the coming days. He linked this possibility to Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement and praised the country’s mediating efforts once again.
He further noted that while tensions have not fully ended, there is movement toward negotiation and possible agreement. According to him, continued dialogue is necessary, and stopping it now would be a mistake.
For now, Pakistan is being viewed as an active diplomatic channel between the two sides. If talks continue in this direction, Islamabad could play an even more visible role in shaping future developments in the region.
